How it happened
MultiPlan provides data and analytics that health insurers use to cut medical-claims costs, and went public in October 2020 through an $11B SPAC merger with Michael Klein's Churchill Capital Corp III β one of the largest de-SPAC deals of the era. Heavy debt, customer-concentration worries and a critical short-seller report battered the stock, which fell nearly 90% from its offering price. The company later rebranded as Claritev and executed a reverse split, leaving its equity worth a small fraction of its debut value.
