Methodology

How we classify. Each company is placed in one category from the most recent reported event, with the source and date shown on its page. Data as of June 2026.

• 💀 Dead / Bankrupt — Reported to have filed for bankruptcy or insolvency, entered liquidation, or ceased operations, per the cited source as of the date shown. Some companies in this group later reorganized or were taken private and continue to operate — the label refers to the bankruptcy or insolvency event, not present-day status or value.
• 🤝 Acquired — Reported acquired in a transaction valuing it below $1B.
• 📉 Public < $1B — Now publicly traded with a reported market capitalization below $1B.
• ✂️ Markdown — Still private; an investor, fund (SEC Form NPORT-P), or publicly reported priced round valued it below the $1B line. Marks are estimates, specific to one holder or share class, and are not the company’s own valuation.

Sourcing. Figures come from press reports, public SEC filings, and — for private companies — mutual-fund fair-value marks disclosed on Form NPORT-P. We do not republish proprietary secondary-marketplace data. Valuations (especially private and market-cap figures) are estimates that lag real events.

Employee accounts. Some company summaries incorporate themes from employee reviews posted publicly on Glassdoor. These are anonymous, unverified accounts that reflect the views of individual reviewers, not findings of fact by this site. We paraphrase recurring themes reported by multiple independent reviewers, link to the source review pages from each company’s profile, and do not repeat allegations about named individuals.
