How it happened
Noname Security, founded in 2020, built an enterprise platform to discover and protect managed and unmanaged APIs. A $135M round in December 2021 made it an API-security unicorn at a $1B valuation. As security-startup funding cooled, Akamai agreed to acquire Noname in May 2024 for about $450M, closing in June β less than half its last private price. Glassdoor reviews are mostly enthusiastic, praising a fast-paced, talent-dense culture, but a recurring minority describe the flip side of that intensity: punishing hours, and leadership and founders whom several reviewers felt were not fully transparent in their communication. Some also pointed to a high-turnover sales team that churned through reps in the run-up to the sale.
