How it happened

Doma (formerly States Title) was a US proptech firm using machine learning to streamline title insurance and closings, valued at about $3B when it went public via SPAC in 2021. Rising interest rates crushed mortgage volumes and its stock collapsed, falling well below $1B. In 2023 Title Resources Group acquired Doma in a fire-sale deal valued around $530M, far below its peak.
