Chapter 11 (Jun 2022); US assets to Asurion

How it happened

Enjoy Technology, founded by former Apple and JCPenney retail chief Ron Johnson, ran 'mobile stores' bringing commerce to customers' homes, merging via SPAC at roughly a $1.2B enterprise value in October 2021. It ran out of cash within months, filed for Chapter 11 in June 2022, and sold its US operations to Asurion. Glassdoor reviews trace the unraveling from the field: staff hired for a white-glove, in-home tech-help mission said the job had become hard carrier sales with capped commissions and ever-rising quotas, as headquarters ballooned and reviewers judged the post-SPAC economics unworkable. When the end came, employees described being blindsided β€” whole teams, including the Canadian operation, cut with no warning and, some said, no severance.
