How it happened
MapR Technologies was a prominent Hadoop-era big-data company that raised about $280M and passed a $1B valuation in a 2016 round led by Australia's Future Fund with CapitalG and Qualcomm Ventures.
As the Hadoop market collapsed it ran out of cash: it warned of a shutdown in May 2019 after laying off 122 staff including its CEO, and HPE bought its assets that August in a distressed deal.
