How it happened
Bird was a US micromobility pioneer that rapidly reached unicorn status renting electric scooters, and was valued near $2.85B when it went public via SPAC in 2021. Persistent losses, asset write-downs, and an unsustainable unit economics model eroded its finances. Bird was delisted from the NYSE and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2023, with its value down roughly 99%.
