How it happened
Superpedestrian, an MIT spinout, ran the LINK shared e-scooter service and built onboard safety and geofencing technology, and was loosely valued near ~$1B around 2021. Amid a micromobility downturn and difficulty raising more capital, it shut its US operations and wound down in 2023. Employees saw it coming: Glassdoor reviews describe strategy that lurched every other month, a steady exodus of the best staff, and roles left unbackfilled until survivors juggled three or four jobs. Multiple reviewers recounted a year-end all-hands where leadership said there would be no raises or bonuses β the reward, they were told, was simply getting to work there β and were calling the company doomed well before the wind-down.
