How it happened
Cazoo was a UK online used-car retailer that listed via SPAC in 2021 at a valuation near $8B. A cash-burning, logistics-heavy model, slumping demand, and a tough financing environment forced deep cost cuts and a pivot to a marketplace before the company was delisted from the NYSE and entered administration in 2024, collapsing roughly 99% from its peak. Glassdoor reviews are strikingly fond of the teams and the concept while blaming the top: insiders described leadership chasing growth with little control of spending, processes never built to scale, and executives with no automotive or logistics background. Many mourned the company even as they recounted the rolling redundancies and strategy churn that followed.
