How it happened
WeightWatchers, the weight-management brand behind points-based diet programs and group meetings, surged to renewed prominence after Oprah Winfrey invested in 2015, and its market value climbed above $8B by 2018. GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy then gutted its core business; revenue slid to about $811M in 2024 and the stock fell under $1, and in May 2025 WW International filed a prepackaged Chapter 11 to wipe out $1.15B in debt. Glassdoor reviews traced the unraveling before the filing: employees described years of near-continuous restructuring and a revolving door of senior leaders, layoffs two or three times a year, and, for frontline coaches, closing workshops, stagnant pay, and benefits like the 401(k) match stripped away.
