How it happened

Luminar Technologies developed lidar sensors for autonomous and assisted driving, reaching a ~$11B valuation after its 2020 SPAC listing. Slow automotive adoption, heavy losses, and cash pressures eroded its market value by roughly 99%. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2025, with its shares moving to OTC markets (LAZRQ) and its Iris/Halo IP sold to MicroVision for $33M in February 2026.
