How it happened

Tarana Wireless, founded in Milpitas, California in 2009, makes fixed-wireless access radios that beam gigabit broadband without line of sight, pitched at regional internet providers. A $170M round in March 2022, co-led by Axon Capital, Khosla Ventures and Prime Movers Lab, valued it at $1B.

Deployments of its G1 gear continued, but the equity has been marked down in SEC filings: Capital Group's SMALLCAP World Fund and the New Economy Fund carry Tarana common, which fell from about $1.07 a share in 2024 and 2025 to roughly $0.40 in 2026, implying a value near $390M, well under the unicorn mark.

Glassdoor reviews stayed largely positive on the technology, pace and culture even as its mutual-fund backers marked the equity down.
