How it happened

Cybereason, an endpoint-security firm founded by Israeli ex-intelligence operatives and run from Boston, was a SoftBank-backed darling that reached a $3.3B valuation in July 2021 and openly prepared for a roughly $5B IPO. The 2022 downturn upended those plans: it scrapped the IPO, hunted for a buyer and laid off staff in repeated rounds.

In April 2023 it raised a SoftBank-led round that slashed its valuation more than 90% to about $300M, stripping its unicorn status, and the once-soaring company was later folded into LevelBlue.
