How it happened
SingleStore (formerly MemSQL) provides a database platform for modern data workloads spanning transactions, analytics and AI. Last valued near $1.32B (Series F-2, 2022), it later fell out of the unicorn club; in 2025 Vector Capital took a majority stake in a deal reported near $500M. Glassdoor reviews from the 2022-23 stretch consistently praised the database technology and engineering talent but flagged heavy churn at the top — several C-suite departures in a short span and an exodus of senior engineers — an IPO that employees said kept receding, and a sales organization struggling to hit quota against much larger cloud-database rivals, punctuated by periodic layoffs.
