How it happened

Workrise (formerly RigUp) is a marketplace and staffing network for energy-industry workers and vendors, last valued near $2.90B in its 2021 Series E; mutual-fund holders have since marked it below the $1B unicorn line, and it remains private. Glassdoor reviews from the 2022-24 retrenchment described the turbulence as it narrowed focus: repeated layoff rounds that hollowed out its Austin and Belfast offices, strategy resets so frequent that staff said they could no longer tell what the company wanted to be, and a revolving executive suite — insiders counted several CEO changes within a few years. Those who stayed described the leaner company as steadier, while lamenting the talent that had left.
