How it happened
Rothy's is a US direct-to-consumer footwear and accessories brand known for shoes made from recycled plastic, reaching a ~$1B valuation around 2021. As DTC valuations fell sharply, third-party estimates (PitchBook) marked it down by roughly half, dropping it below the unicorn threshold. Glassdoor reviews from the markdown years describe a company in transition: corporate staff recounted leadership reversing priorities, promotions and schedules at the last minute β a stop-start churn that left teams burned out β while retail employees pointed to thin hours, low pay and limited advancement. Several felt the brand had lost some of its unicorn-era momentum, even as they praised the product and coworkers.
