How it happened
Starry delivered fixed-wireless home internet over millimeter-wave spectrum, going public via SPAC at a $1.8B valuation in early 2021. Its stock cratered more than 99% as it struggled to fund a capital-intensive build-out. Starry filed for Chapter 11 in August 2022 and reorganized as a smaller private company. Employees traced the collapse to runaway spending: Glassdoor reviews described a hiring binge that ran until the cash did, then abrupt mass layoffs β about half the company at once in late 2022. Reviewers recounted being let go by livestream and email with two weeks' notice and severance they called a joke, after leadership had assured them weeks earlier that all was fine.
