How it happened
a.k.a. Brands is a roll-up of digitally native fashion labels β including Princess Polly, Petal & Pup, Culture Kings and mnml β that sells trend-driven clothing to young shoppers online. It went public on the NYSE in September 2021 with a market value around $1.3-1.4B, riding investor enthusiasm for DTC e-commerce. The debut disappointed and conditions worsened: growth slowed, marketing-driven margins compressed and the stock fell about 91%, leaving the company worth under $100M β well below $1B.
