How it happened
Health Catalyst provides a data-and-analytics platform and services that help hospitals and health systems improve clinical and financial outcomes. A venture-backed unicorn, it went public in July 2019 and its market value peaked around $1.37B. As hospital IT budgets tightened and growth slowed, the stock fell roughly 94%, leaving it worth under $100M. Glassdoor reviews through the 2022-24 downturn described the company's first-ever layoffs becoming a recurring, roughly annual-to-twice-yearly event, near-constant reorganizations and strategy pivots β some reviewers counted several managers in two years β and trimmed pay and benefits, with bonuses and stock dropped from individual-contributor packages; even so, many still credited leadership for unusual transparency and generous severance.
